I have been coaching for over ten years now since being trained by the Coaching Training Institute in 2006. Over that time, I have had the honour and privilege of working with and supporting some amazing people. It has been and continues to be a huge part of my life.
One day I was speaking to my coach and I mentioned that I felt there was "more" I could be doing. She asked what that "more" was and I wasn't sure, but because she is a great coach - within a few minutes I had come to a startling conclusion. I absolutely love seeing my clients develop their personal self confidence, empower themselves in their lives and develop and deploy their innate leadership talent. But...what about everyone else? What about all of those people I don't get to work with? What about their leadership talent?
So my coach asked me what I wanted to do about it, and to be honest I didn't know. So, of course she assigned that to me as "homework". (Being coached isn't always easy...)
Through a number of serendipitous circumstances, I came to the realization that I could make leadership development available to everyone but not by coaching with them one by one, but rather by reminding them to be leaders in their lives while providing them with some insight and opportunity to practice doing so. And LeaderSTEP was born!
My personal mission is to help everyone discover, develop and deploy their innate leadership talent. LeaderSTEP enables this by providing a weekly reminder to be the leader you are.
I fundamentally believe that everyone has leadership talent and I get very excited at imagining what might be possible in creating a better world if more of everyone's latent leadership talent was discovered, developed and deployed as early as possible in their lives.
You...yes you! can have a role in creating a better tomorrow. Are you up for this? If you haven't already thought about investing in developing your talent and shaping your future, do it now! Join LeaderSTEP and start to discover and develop your leadership talent.
Hi. I am Gord Aker, the founder of LeaderSTEP. Here is a bit about me.
I have been trained as an Executive Life Coach by one of the best coach training schools in the world, the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) out of San Rafael California. People who have completed their training and then the certification process with CTI are entitled to be identified by the letters CPCC which stands for, "Certified Professional Co-Active Coach". These letters indicate someone who is serious about being a competent and professional coach. I have the CPCC certification.
The coaching profession is largely unregulated, so over 20 years ago, a group of coaches got together to create the International Coach Federation (ICF) which is the largest global body for regulating professional coaching standards. The ICF not only certifies coach training programs like The Coaches Training Institute, it also ensures coaches adhere to a code of ethics. In addition, the ICF also provides coaches with a credential based on their training and their experience.
There are three credentials available to coaches. The first is the Associate Certified Coach or ACC. The second is the Professional Certified Coach or PCC and the highest level is the Master Certified Coach or MCC. I am proud to hold the PCC credential and I am working towards the MCC.
I have accumulated over 20 years of organizational leadership experience over the course of my career. While at TransCanada Corporation, I held numerous leadership roles that included nine years in the field organization working with front line staff and supervisors. In addition, I have also led a registered charity as the President, reporting to a Board of Directors and subsequent to that, spent two years as the General Manager of Production Reliability at Penn West Exploration Ltd.
My wife of 30 years and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and our two children have now moved on to careers of their own.
